Basketball video games have traditionally been only NBA- or NCAA-branded. Professionals and soon-to-be professionals in the U.S. were almost all the world could play as on home consoles. Now, 2K Sports is ending that trend by including Euroleague teams and players in the next NBA 2K game.
2K Games and Turkish Airlines Euroleague basketball have announced that “top teams” from the Euroleague will be included in NBA 2K14. For the first time, 14 Euroleague teams will be included in an NBA 2K game: Alba Berlin, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, CSKA Moscow, EA7 Emporio Armani Milano, Montepaschi Siena, Fenerbahçe Ülker Istanbul, Anadolu Efes Istanbul, Olympiacos Piraeus, Panathinaikos Athens, Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv, Zalgiris Kaunas, Unicaja Málaga, and Laboral Kutxa Vitoria.
“We are very proud to collaborate with 2K Sports by introducing our teams and players into the best basketball video game in the world,” said Jordi Bertomeu, CEO of Euroleague. “With this partnership, we’re able to bring fans one step closer to the action by ushering the Euroleague into the global gaming community.”
Despite the addition of the Euroleague teams, the NBA will still be the major focus of NBA 2K14. LeBron James will be the cover athlete for the game, even in Europe.
