Montgomery Gentry is in a state of mourning today. Half of the country duo, Eddie Montgomery, has lost his 19-year-old son. Hunter Montgomery died Sunday. He was in an accident in Kentucky about a week ago, and had been on life support ever since.

“My son Hunter went to heaven today,” the Montgomery Gentry singer said in a statement to People magazine. “I appreciate all your prayers and love and thank you for giving us privacy as we grieve and say goodbye.”

Hunter Montgomery got engaged last summer at a Montgomery Gentry concert.

Eddie Montgomery has had more than his fair share of trials in the past few years. In addition to a diagnosis of prostate cancer and subsequent treatment, as well as filing bankruptcy over a failed restaurant venture, things have been difficult.

Nothing compares to the difficulty he is facing today, however. No parent should ever have to bury a child. It simply isn’t the natural order of life.

Prayers are surely being said for Montgomery Gentry–and more specifically for Eddie Montgomery and all the people who loved Hunter Montgomery.

May they all find peace in the love and strength of others in the sad, sad days to come.
