In an attempt to sling mud at potential Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, Republican Senator Rand Paul has made references to the Bill Clinton affair that was the talk of the 1990s.
He accused the former president of “predatory behaviors” towards former White House intern Monica Lewinsky. He also expressed concern about what would happen if Clinton’s husband returned to the White House as, “First Spouse.”
“One of the workplace laws and rules that I think are good is that bosses shouldn’t prey on young interns in their office. And I think really the media seems to have given President Clinton a pass on this.”
Really, Rand Paul?
Speaking as someone who grew up in the nineties and remembered that everywhere you looked there was discussion of the affair, I have to say that no, the media did not give him a pass.

Anyone who remembers that era of political history knows that’s all anyone talked about, especially news organizations. Why wouldn’t they? It was the biggest presidential scandal since Watergate!
What could have happened to make everyone seemingly “forget” how terrible that incident was?
Well, there were the two terms of George W. Bush, an expensive war in Iraq, a poorly handled Hurricane Katrina, and then we elected the first black president, Barack Obama with hopes he’d deal with that pesky recession that tanked the economy.
And “Obamacare”, that whole “Obamacare” debate.

So as you see, great deal can happen in twenty or so years, and clearly the Clintons are still together. Is it possible that Hillary Clinton being in the White House will result in a new round of sex scandals? I have no idea, but I will say that if Bill Clinton wanted to engage in questionable behavior, I doubt he’d need to be in Washington, D.C. to make it happen.
Regardless of why Rand Paul and his constituents somehow blame Hillary Clinton for what happened, it’s not yet even confirmed that she will seek a presidential term. It seems like a waste of a criticism that could have been used to address the relevant issues.
Or a chance to exercise the ability to not say anything at all if one does not have anything nice to say. Or anything of value for that matter.
