Miss Universe Pageant: Despite Mistake, Executive Wants Steve Harvey Back as Host

The Miss Universe Pageant has had more coverage about host Steve Harvey’s mistake than about the pageant itself.

It was Sunday evening when Harvey announced Miss Colombia was the winner of the Miss Universe Pageant. The trouble was, Miss Colombia didn’t win. That meant Steve Harvey had to return to the stage, admit his gaffe, and announce the real winner–Miss Philippines–of the pageant.

On Tuesday, Mark Shapiro, the chief content officer of WME IMG (the company that owns the Miss Universe Organization), said he would love to see Steve Harvey return as host next year.

“He was funny, he was informative, he’s high energy, he’s got a great following,” Shapiro said of the comedian and Family Feud host. “I definitely want him back, and I would hate to see him not come back. He’s going to want a shot to redeem himself.”

“The world forgives, the world forgets,” the Miss Universe executive added. “It could happen to the best of us. He was so well intended, and he’s such a good guy, and it was really such a mistake that I hope people don’t hold this over him other than for just a good laugh and let it pass.”

Steve Harvey felt terrible about his mistake, and he issued an apology (or two) via Twitter.

Do you think Steve Harvey will return to host next year’s Miss Universe Pageant? Surely he can forgive himself the mistake he made. It was something that could have happened to anyone.
