After rigorous rounds of modeling, smiling and fielding questions and answers, Miss South Carolina 2014 K. Lee Graham won this year’s title of Miss Teen USA, besting 50 hopefuls on Saturday, at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The 17-year-old Graham hails from Chapin, South Carolina.

The first rounds of Miss Teen USA 2014 saw 51 girls from all over the United States vying for the title, with only 15 selected to move on to the semi-finals. The 15 semi-finalists showcased their physical beauty in a bikini catwalk competition before being whittled down to five finalists who faced the tricky question-and-answer portion of the pageant.

The five finalists this year included Miss California, Miss South Carolina, Miss New Jersey, Miss Pennsylvania, and Miss Mississippi.

Graham was able to win over the judges when she was asked how teens would be remembered today by people living 100 years from now. She replied by saying she hoped her peers would be remembered as agents of change.

Other contestants gave memorable answers, but it was Miss South Carolina who best embodied the complete package of charm, beauty, and intelligence that convinced the judges to give her the title of Miss Teen USA 2014. Graham was crowned by Miss Universe Gabriela Isler and was ecstatic about her big win. “I can’t even talk right now. This is literally a dream come true!” she said. “Thank you for supporting me. We did it!”

She later shared that her win was literally a dream come true because she used to go to sleep at night dreaming that she would win a major beauty pageant.

As Miss Teen USA 2014, Graham aims to promote her Beauty Secrets campaign, which emphasizes that beauty is being happy about who you are and not struggling to meet impossible standards of perfection.
