Minka Kelly was reportedly spotted out on a date with actor Sean Penn just weeks after his breakup with Charlize Theron, according to TMZ.
Kelly, Penn, and a couple of their friends were seen at The French Laundry restaurant in California after having met at an event Penn threw for his Haiti relief organization, and a source says the date was a tentative affair as the duo get to know each other.
“That was their first date, but it was a group setting. It was more of a ‘let’s see how this goes’,” the source told Us Weekly.
Penn and Charlize Theron were reportedly engaged, but according to Us Weekly, Theron abruptly stopped taking his calls last month and the relationship dissolved. Both actors have been fairly private about their time together, but Theron did tell Elle UK recently that he was the “love of her life”, and the fact that they just finished a film together–and will likely be promoting it soon–could make things awkward.
“Putting aside that he’s my partner, he’s the love of my life; for the first time, I felt that my work was really bleeding into my life and that made it hard. There were moments where I was incredibly unfair to him. And moments where I felt like… he was incredibly unfair to me,” Theron said.
Minka Kelly did mention on Instagram that she had a lovely birthday, but she–wisely–did not say anything about who she was with.
