Elle magazine recently released four different covers for its February “Women in Television” issue on Tuesday. The covers feature Amy Poehler, from Parks and Recreation, Zooey Deschanel from New Girl, Allison Williams from Girls, and Mindy Kaling from The Mindy Project.

After the covers were released, an immediate controversy developed over why Mindy’s photo was the only one in black and white, and the only one that had a close up rather than a full-body shot. Fans wanted to know why Mindy would receive different treatment than the other three girls, and if the magazine was trying to simply avoid showing her size eight figure.

Despite the backlash from fans, Elle defended their decision saying that Mindy looked beautiful and chic. “Mindy looks sexy, beautiful and chic. We think it is a striking and sophisticated cover and are thrilled to celebrate her in our Women in TV Issue,” Elle wrote in a statement.

Mindy also defended the cover, and took to Twitter to explain why. “I love my @ELLEmagazine cover. It made me feel glamorous and cool. And if anyone wants to see more of my body, go on thirteen dates with me,” Mindy tweeted. Then, in true Mindy fashion, she cracked a joke and tweeted: “Wishing for more skin on my @ELLEmagazine cover? Chris Messina and I are naked on a brand new #themindyproject tonight, ya pervs!”
