Miley Cyrus has seen her share of headlines this year for being racy, scandalous, barely clothed, and, you know, for that whole tongue thing. But the new album art she dropped on Instagram this week is a pretty far cry from all that.

The "Wrecking Ball" singer released the image for her new single "Adore You", which won't be on the radio until January 6 but is already doing well on iTunes. The photo shows a cropped image of Cyrus' face behind a bouquet of wilting roses, and there are no bright colors or distracting clothing. Simple, muted, lovely.

Cyrus was the talk of the web this summer after her raunchy performance with Robin Thicke at the MTV VMAs, and has since released the video for "Wrecking Ball"--which features a totally nude Miley in a room with some demolition equipment--and received a scathing open letter from singer Sinead O'Connor, who disapproved of her sexed-up stage shows. Cyrus talked a bit about the VMAs performance afterward, saying that everyone was "overthinking it" and that she knew what she was doing: making history.

“How many times have we seen this play out in pop music? Madonna’s done it, Britney’s done it. Every VMA performance… anyone that performs, that’s what you’re looking for. You’re wanting to make history....Me and Robin the whole time said, ‘You know we’re about to make history right now.’ What’s amazing is I think now, we’re three days later and people are still talking about it. They’re overthinking it,” she said.

Cyrus' album "Bangerz" has been burning up the charts and earned her the "Best Artist of 2013" award from MTV earlier this year.
