Miami Zombie Attack Almost Gets Prankster Shot

  • By now, most of us know about the horrifying attack in Miami over Memorial Day weekend, when 31-year old Rudy Eugene tore off his clothes in what police believe was a drug-fueled rage and commenced to eating more than 75% of a homeless man’s face. The incident was the first in a string of bizarre stories around the nation last week involving murder, dismemberment, cannibalism, and decapitation, and spawned rumors and fear-mongering about a zombie apocalypse.

Apparently, it was also a jumping-off point for a seriously messed-up prank.

A man dressed up like a typical “zombie”–covered in fake blood, hunched over and making guttural growls–in Miami and ran through the streets, chasing after people seemingly intent on eating their brains. Now, had this been done two weeks ago, it would be a whole lot funnier. But the timing is a bit off, as is voiced in the many comments under the YouTube video the “zombie” posted…which, by the way, had almost a million hits before YouTube took it down. I managed to finagle a copy of it, however, and embedded it below for your amusement/disgust.

Coming on the heels of such a horrible tragedy, the prank seems pretty heartless regarding not only Ronald Poppo–Eugene’s victim–but also the residents of Miami, who have been terrified since the news broke that something is happening to their neighbors. And, as you can see around the 2:00 mark, someone without a sense of humor about the whole thing pulled a gun on the trickster, who put a disclaimer on the YouTube page that it was a dangerous prank and for users not to try it.

But the video starts out with a (sort of) warning: “On Saturday May 26, 2012, a naked man was chewing on the face of another naked man in downtown Miami. After police arrived the man kept eating and growling, the police had to open fire until the cannibal was dead… It’s not over, it’s only the beginning!”

I love zombies as much as the next guy….but please, don’t try this. Especially in Miami.
