Melissa Rivers will reportedly file a lawsuit against the clinic that allegedly performed an unplanned biopsy on her mother, comedian Joan Rivers, last month. Rivers passed away after suffering from cardiac arrest following the procedure.

A friend of the family says that Melissa is planning on launching a lawsuit against Yorkville Endoscopy after a decision was made to perform a biopsy when an abnormality was found on her vocal cords; Rivers reportedly only gave consent to an endoscopy.

“Melissa does plan to sue the clinic. It’s very difficult to discuss something so unpleasant with her, but she is going to launch a lawsuit,” a family friend told The Daily Mail.

Rivers’ death is under investigation by the New York Department of Health, but Dr. Gwen Korovin says she never performed a biopsy and has also denied a story making rounds in the press that she took a “selfie” with the comedian and actress while she was unconscious.

Melissa was in charge of organizing a star-studded funeral for her mother according to her wishes, and the event was attended by several celebrities who had some kind and funny words for the star. Rivers’ best friend, Margie Stern, said she would have been proud of her daughter.

“Melissa is amazing. I told Melissa, ‘Your mother would be so proud of you.’ She handled everything. She did everything exactly as her mother would have wanted,” Stern told People Magazine.
