  • Melissa Rivers, who rushed to Joan Rivers‘ bedside upon hearing of her mother’s medical emergency, released a statement thanking fans for the outpouring of love and prayers for the legendary comedienne.

In a statement to E! News, Melissa said her mother, who suffered cardiac arrest following a “routine” throat procedure in New York City, is still in serious condition.

“My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world,” said Melissa in the statement. “Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery.”

The E! Fashion Police host suffered complications from a minor throat procedure yesterday morning in New York City.

Reports say the 81-year-old comedienne stopped breathing while having the procedure on Thursday morning at a clinic on New York’s Upper East Side and was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital where she is being treated.

The ground-breaking comedienne was placed in a medically induced coma, which is usually a procedure undertaken to allow the brain time to heal following a trauma.

Melissa and her son, Cooper, flew to Rivers‘ bedside yesterday as soon as the news reached them.

On Thursday, Melissa released a statement to Us Weekly via Mount Sinai Hospital rep Sid Dinsay.

“I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother,” the statement read. “She is resting comfortably and is with our family. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.”

A rep for the hospital released the following statement:

“This morning, Joan Rivers was taken to The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, where she is being attended to. Her family wants to thank everybody for their outpouring of love and support. We will provide an update on her condition as it becomes available.”

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Rivers family at this time.
