The Golden Globes have announced that Mel Gibson will be attending this year’s ceremony, and he will present an award.

The response has been mixed, as some Twitter users have questioned the choice.
“Mel Gibson? What are you, desperate,” said one user. “Mel Gibson = yuk,” said another.
But there’s one person who’s thrilled to see Mel Gibson presenting an award at this Sunday’s event – host Ricky Gervais.
“Mel Gibson is presenting an award at The Golden Globes. Thank you Jesus,” he tweeted.

Why is Ricky Gervais so happy? Well, Gibson has always been one of the comedian’s favorite targets.
“I hope I haven’t offended anyone. It’s not my fault. I like a drink as much as the next man. Unless the next man is Mel Gibson,” Gervais quipped at the 2010 ceremony.
“Our first presenter is beautiful, talented, and Jewish apparently. Mel Gibson told me that. He’s obsessed,” he said the next year.
Gibson, of course, found infamy in 2006 when he made anti-Semitic comments during a DUI arrest.
