Houston Rockets coach Kevin McHale faced a devastating loss over the weekend when his daughter, Sasha, died under undisclosed circumstances.
Sasha was just 23; McHale has been on leave from his team, citing a family issue, but the reason was not made public. McHale’s peers and team members have begun expressing their grief and condolences via Twitter, with nothing but nice things to say about the young woman many of them watched grow up.
“While Kevin was with our organization, we all watched Sasha grow up and become an outstanding young woman,” Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said in a statement. “She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.”
Although the exact cause of death is not known at this time, Sasha had been battling Lupus, which affects the immune system. Leslie Alexander, the owner of the Houston Rockets, issued a statement about the family’s loss.
“I extend my deepest condolences to Kevin and Lynn for the loss of their beautiful daughter, Sasha, on Saturday afternoon,” he said. “Kevin and Lynn are loving and dedicated parents who will need our continued support throughout this very difficult time. Our entire organization is mourning the McHale family’s loss and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”
