Talk about an exciting year.

Yesterday, we heard the surprising news that Yahoo had tapped Marissa Mayer to be the company’s new CEO. It wasn’t surprising that Yahoo would pick Mayer – as nobody questions the qualifications of the first female engineer and youngest executive at Google. It was surprising because many people expected interim CEO Ross Levinsohn to stay on for a permanent stint. It shows that Mayer’s pretty good at keeping things under wraps.

More news supporting that is the fact that now we learn that the 37-year-old CEO is also pregnant with her first child.

In an interview with Fortune, Maybe disclosed that the baby is due on October 7th.

Mayer learned that she was pregnant in January, and learned that Yahoo wanted her to run the company on June 18th. She says that none of the people on Yahoo’s CEO search committee expressed any concern with the fact that she was with child when she mentioned it to them in June.

And on the topic of taking time off so close to beginning the new gig?

“I like to stay in the rhythm of things,” she told Fortune. “My maternity leave will be a few weeks long and I’ll work throughout it.”
