“Maleficent“, which is still a ways off from theaters, has been getting a lot of press since the first photos of Angelina Jolie began to leak online. As the evil witch who casts a curse onto “Sleeping Beauty” Aurora, she’ll not only get to show us the bad side, but what made her into the dark sorceress she became.

Jolie says her costume and makeup are so realistic, she’s been scaring the children who come to visit the set. In fact, the only kid who will come near her is Vivienne, her 5-year old daughter.

“These little kids would visit the set, and I would think, ‘Oh, I am a Disney character,’ so I would go over to them, and say, ‘Hi there.’ They would just scream,” she said. “One little kid even said, ‘Mommy, please make the mean witch stop talking to me.’ ”

The new film aims to show a darker, edgier view of that fairy tale world, and those involved say it may make fans of the story change the way they feel about the outcome.

“We’ll see the epic battle with of the dragon, but this time, just maybe, we may find ourselves rooting for the other side,” said studio production chief Sean Bailey.

Jolie says she jumped at the chance to portray Maleficent, who was always her favorite villain from the Disney world.

“Since I was a little girl, Maleficent was always my favorite. I was terrified of her, but I was so drawn to her. I wanted to know more about her, know what she was like and who she was,” Jolie said. “She had this elegance and grace, and yet she was so cruel, Just wonderfully and deliciously cruel.”

“Maleficent” opens July 2, 2014.
