Spring is coming for us here in the U.S.–at least, it’s supposed to be, even if Mother Nature hasn’t gotten the memo yet–and with the warmer weather comes storms. For those of us who enjoy a good round of lightning and thunder, impending storm season is a good time to hunker down with a scary movie and a batch of chocolate chip cookies. For some, though, a storm is a good chance to see science in action.
Weather Underground has released a new infographic showing us the story behind those streaks of electricity, and it’s beautifully done. Plus, Nikola Tesla gets a mention!
It’s always a good idea to protect your home as much as possible before storm season arrives. This includes pruning back tree branches that could damage siding, windows or vehicles; putting aside an emergency kit with bottled water, non-perishable food items, and a flashlight with extra batteries; checking out flood insurance if you live in an area prone to flooding; and making sure you have a surge protector installed for your electronics.
