Lea Michele lost her boyfriend, “Glee” co-star Cory Monteith, to a fatal combination of drugs and alcohol earlier this year, and when it happened she was blindsided, grief-stricken, and at a loss as to where to go. But a friend who had appeared on the hit show offered help when Michele needed it, and she says she doesn’t know if she can ever repay the debt.
“I called her and said, I don’t know where I’m going to go because my house is swarmed [with reporters],” Michele said of Kate Hudson. “She was like, ‘Oh, you’re going to stay at my house.’ Like it was nothing. I’ll never really be able to thank her, truly, for what she did for me.”
One of the things Hudson did for Michele was to make sure she could have all the comfort she needed, whether it was from a family member or just her favorite foods.
“She let my family stay there, and any of my friends. She made sure that in the refrigerator were my favorite juices,” Michele said.
The actress opens up about her loss in the most recent issue of Elle Magazine and says that the two of them were dating from the beginning of the show, but kept it quiet. Now, she’s learning how to cope with losing such an important person in her life.
“It’s very hard and you have to be very strong to come out of this alive, but I think by doing the best for myself, by showing that you don’t have to lose yourself, maybe someone else will feel some sort of strength or comfort. I know that Cory would want nothing more than for me to take this situation and use it to help people. I don’t know if I will. I don’t know how.”
Michele and the rest of the “Glee” gang will return with new episodes this Thursday on Fox.
