Lauren Conrad, who famously went by “L.C.” on the drama-filled hit reality show “Laguna Beach” when it was in its heyday on MTV, says she’s changed from the partying girl she used to be. And after “destroying” her voice with her clubbing ways, she says she’s glad she’s done with that part of her life.

Conrad is perhaps the most successful of the “cast” after striking out on her own to form a popular clothing line and finding an eager audience for her books, of which she’s penned eight. The stories are loosely based on her own life and experience, which makes them a goldmine for fans of the show who want all the dirt.

The 27-year old may have made the books semi-autobiographical because, as she says, she wasn’t fully represented on the reality show.

“I only ever got to tell half my story,” Conrad said in a recent Marie Claire interview. “People are very quick to judge these days, especially behind the anonymity of a screen name. It’s very easy to say, ‘I hate her, I hate what she wore, she seems mean.’ But you’re only seeing a small fraction of her life. I hoped I didn’t [have to stay on TV]. Everybody told me to stay on TV. Nobody wanted me to leave.”

She also says she made some bad decisions when she was younger, and is putting those days behind her along with reality television.

“It feels done for me. I’m OK with it being done,” she said. “I destroyed my voice when I moved to L.A. There are polyps all over my vocal chords because I was in a lot of loud places. If you listen to the first episode of ‘Laguna,’ my voice is completely different.”

As for her former co-stars, Conrad says she doesn’t have much contact with them. Heidi and Spencer Pratt may have made headlines over the years for their wacky behavior (and plastic surgery), but Conrad is happy to have that behind her, as well.
