Kylie Minogue has been chosen to do the prestigious job of switching on London‘s famous Oxford street Christmas lights.
The ceremony is in its 56th year and before Kylie Minogue there were many a celebrity who pushed the iconic button to light the bustling street and officially begin Christmas shopping season.
For example, X-Factor star and musician Cheryl Fernandez-Versini did it last year and musician Robbie Williams held the honor in 2012.
For the first time, West Oxford Street will be closed when Kylie Minogue switches on the lights. Only foot traffic will be allowed and surrounding shops will be offering special discounts.
But the good deals won’t be the only attraction after Kylie Minogue officially starts Christmas season.
There will be performances by Foxes, Fleur East, Ben Haenow, Gabrielle Aplin, and even a performance by cast members from Matilda The Musical.
Capital FM breakfast hosts Dave Berry and Lisa Snowdon will be helping Kylie Minogue with the festivities. Needless to say, they’re pretty excited.
Dave Berry said, “This event officially marks the start of Christmas for London. The atmosphere on Oxford Street at the lights switch-on is always fantastic and it is great to be part of the Christmas countdown once again.”
Sounds like a lot of fun!
