Kylie Minogue has been battling breast cancer for about eight years now.

At the age of 37, Minogue’s diagnosis was a shocking revelation for fans around the world. Now, the Kiss Me Once singer is opening up and sharing details about the battle she’s faced over the years.

On Sunday, July 13, Minogue sat down for an interview with Karl Stefanovic on 60 Minutes, reports Mirror UK. When Stefanovic inquired about her bout with breast cancer, the 46-year-old singer-songwriter revealed that she’s learned many lessons in dealing with her sickness.

The Australian songstress explained how she had to be a little “selfish” in order to put her needs first and take care of herself.

“Oh, boy how did I do that,” Minogue said. “Someone had said to me at the time, “You need to be a little bit selfish. It’s not in my nature to be selfish but now is the time to do that – let people take care of you,” she explained. “And, that’s what I did.”

Stefanovic then asked Minogue about her revelations of self-discovery. The Voice UK coach revealed a number of things she’s learned about herself over the years.

“Umm, it’s really hard to… too many things. I know I have strength but when you’re fighting something where there is a lot of unknown it’s a mixture, a mixture of emotions and memories. It is years until you really get the all clear and by the time my hair started growing back it was very exciting; it was like a miracle.”

Minogue went on to discuss another daunting battle she’s dealt with in her life – the loss of her longtime friend, Michael Hutchence. The Aphrodite singer, who dated Hutchence back in the late 80s, recounted a few special moments in their relationship.

“I was probably not very cool then, and he was very cool and somehow we met in the middle,” she said. “‘Many things, many things, ways of the world, he had travelled so much. I had so many firsts with him; it was great.”

She went on to explain how things changed between the two of them when Hutchence moved on and started dating a supermodel. Although their brief love affair waned, they remained the best of friends.

“It was great love, and it was true heartbreak,” she said of through tears. “I’ve never met anyone like that,” she continued. Minogue expressed how the ups and downs she’s faced have made her the woman she is today.
