  • The comedy due of Key & Peele is slated to hit the silver screen next year. Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele are set to star in their first joint project together: a movie about a stolen cat named Keanu. The film, aptly title Keanu, will be under New Line Cinema, with which Key and Peele also reportedly agreed to do a remake of Police Academy.

The story of Keanu is said to involve Key and Peele playing best friends who pretend they are drug dealers to infiltrate the criminal underworld, all because of a stolen cat. The script was reportedly written by Peele and Alex Rubens, writer for Key & Peele and Community. Rumors are circulating that Peter Atencio, director of Key & Peele, is in talks to direct the film, but no news has been confirmed.

Key and Peele will also be producing Keanu, along with their show’s producers, Peter Principato, Paul Young and Joel Zadak, keeping it all in the family of Key & Peele. Fans of the successful comedy show will have nothing to worry about, since Peele said, “None of our Key & Peele characters will be harmed in the making of this film.”

Keanu will reportedly begin shooting in Los Angeles in April 2015. It will be overseen by New Line Cinema’s Senior Vice Presidents of Production Michael Disco and Sam Brown.

Key and Peele were trying to produce the film independently, revealed New Line President of Production Richard Brener, before they agreed to work with the studio. “We were happy that they were open to doing it at a studio, particularly ours. Everything they do is funny,” he said.

Key and Peele worked together on MAD TV and have been collaborating on sketches for Comedy Central. Besides Keanu, Key and Peele are also in talks for other film projects, such as the Police Academy reboot and an untitled Judd Apatow film.
