Kelly Osbourne has finally spoken out about the drama surrounding her last week on Fashion Police, saying she has chosen to keep quiet about it until now because she didn’t think it would help matters to speak publicly about it. However, she did say that Giuliana Rancic–whose on-air comments about actress Zendaya’s appearance at the Oscars earlier this year nearly broke the internet when fans called them racist–was wrong in the situation, which is “heartbreaking”.
“There’s been so much drama surrounded by what went on at Fashion Police that I have chosen to keep quiet about. I will [continue to keep quiet] because I don’t think it will do anyone service, but I will say this: Giuliana is not often wrong. She really isn’t, but it’s been really, really heartbreaking to see her behavior that has transpired when she did get caught being wrong. That’s what broke my heart,” Osbourne said.
Rancic found herself in hot water after the episode–in which she said that Zendaya, who wore her hair in dreadlocks to the Academy Awards, looked like she probably smelled like “patchouli oil or weed”–aired. The backlash was immediate, and Zendaya took to Twitter to call out Rancic for her hurtful words, which many thought had racist undertones. However, Rancic said she was talking about the “bohemian” look the actress was sporting and wasn’t commenting on her race.
“There is a fine line between what is funny and disrespectful. Someone said something about my hair at the Oscars that left me in awe. Not because I was relishing in rave outfit reviews, but because I was hit with ignorant slurs and pure disrespect,” Zendaya said.
Rancic sent an apology to her via Twitter, and later, People Magazine reported that Rancic’s comments were chopped up, which made them seem even more inappropriate.
Osbourne has since left the show.
