Actor Freddie Prinze, Jr. told ABC News that working alongside 24 star Keifer Sutherland made him want to quit acting altogether.

Prinze played a character named Cole Ortiz on the eighth season of the hit Fox drama, and commented, “it was terrible. I hated every moment of it.” The late-90’s teen idol Prinze went on to say, “Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world. That’s not me talking trash, I’d say it to his face, I think everyone that’s worked with him has said that.”

Prinze, who was at the San Diego Comic-Con earlier this month while promoting his new Disney XD series Star Wars Rebels, added, “I just wanted to quit the business after that. So, I just sort of stopped.” Aside from a couple of small parts on shows including Psych and Bones, Prinze has been working as a director and producer for the WWE professional wrestling network, and has been raising a son and a daughter with wife Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Sutherland, on the other hand, had nice things to say about Prinze. Commenting on season eight of 24, Sutherland told Parade magazine, “We have some great actors joining us – Mykelti Williamson is the head of CTU, Freddie Prinze Jr. is playing my partner – So, it’s this great balance between something that’s new and what fans will find familiar.”

Here Sutherland appears with Wil Wheaton in Stand By Me from 1986:

Prinze goes on to attack Sutherland’s height – “I went and worked for Vince McMahon at the WWE for Christ’s sake and it was a crazier job than working with Kiefer. But, at least he was cool and tall. I didn’t have to take my shoes off to do scenes with him, which they made me do. Just put the guy on an apple box or don’t hire me next time. You know I’m 6 feet and he’s 5’4.”

Sutherland, who ranked at number 68 on the 2006 Forbes “Celebrity 100” list of the world’s most powerful stars, made $23 million that year. Sutherland’s rep issued a statement on Prinze’s comments – “Kiefer worked with Freddie Prinze, Jr. more than 5 years ago, and this is the first he has heard of Freddie‘s grievances. Kiefer enjoyed working with Freddie and wishes him the best.”

A FOX executive added, “Kiefer was nothing but professional during the run of the show and is beloved by cast and crew. It’s so out of left field, 5 years later. We wouldn’t have done another 24 if Kiefer were anything like Freddie described.”
