Katie Holmes announced in July that she had optioned the book All We Had and was preparing to adapt it into a movie.
Now, that dream is getting closer to coming true for Holmes.
There were questions about whether or not she would star in her directorial debut, but we now know that she will star as the mother in the mother/daughter duo that the book is based on.
The story is one that should prove powerful for Katie Holmes once she molds it for projection on the big screen.
It is the story of a 13-year-old girl, Ruthie, and her mother, Rita (Katie Holmes), who try to start life over on the edge of poverty in an interesting small town called Fat River.
Quirky locals provide an amazing and whimsical backdrop, and Katie Holmes should have a lot of fun working them into the movie!
Josh Boone, who directed The Fault in Our Stars and wrote and directed Stuck in Love, will reportedly write the adaptation of the novel.
Jane Rosenthal, who produced About A Boy, will produce All We Had, along with Katie Holmes and Berry Welsh.
Rosenthal said, “Katie has such a clear vision for the book’s irreverent, original mother-daughter relationship. Her passion for the material, along with Josh Boone’s ability to tell stories grounded in the comedy and drama of everyday, will truly bring these characters to life.”
Katie Holmes is excited to get to work on All We Had and to collaborate with Boone and Rosenthal.
“I am very excited and honored to be collaborating with Jane and Josh on this project and look so forward to bringing Annie’s [Weatherwax] incredible characters to the screen,” she said.
Good luck to Katie Holmes on her project!
