Katie Holmes has had a big year; her fashion line, Holmes & Yang, got some love from Rihanna (after debuting at New York Fashion Week last year), she started a Twitter account, and she starred in a Broadway production of “Dead Accounts”, which got good reviews. But with ex-husband Tom Cruise involved in a bitter lawsuit with Bauer Publishing–which publishes Life & Style and In Touch magazines–for their claims that he abandoned their daughter Suri, it’s no wonder that she decided to go for a bit of a change.
The 35-year old actress debuted a new look at this year’s Jingle Ball in New York City last weekend, showing off a shorter hair style and a darker color. The change might not seem like a big deal to many, but Holmes is the face and new co-owner of Alterna Haircare, an organic brand.
“It’s good for my hair and good for the earth, so I feel good using it,” she said.
Holmes hasn’t commented on Cruise’s lawsuit, but a copy of the deposition was made public last month which shows his side of the story regarding the headlines about Suri. Cruise is accused of shooting a film rather than being there for his daughter’s first day of school, something he says only happened due to scheduling conflicts with Holmes.
“If she had asked me to be there, I would have been there I would have worked it out in any way I could,” he said. “Things change and there is different agreements, like in any divorce, where you work out schedules. It’s just a different set of circumstances. It certainly does not mean that I’ve abandoned my daughter.”
