On Saturday, June 21, Katie Couric married her fiancé John Molner during an intimate ceremony in East Hampton, New York.
The couple, who got engaged in September 2013 after dating for two years, said their nuptials in Couric’s backyard in front of 50 of their closest friends and family members.
“We wanted to keep the wedding just very low-key,” Couric told PEOPLE. “This is not my first rodeo so I didn’t want to go too crazy and neither did John.”
The wedding was a family affair, and primary planned by John himself. “I call John ‘Groomzilla!’ ” Couric laughed. “We’re a very modern couple.” The wedding featured readings from Molner’s children, Allie and Henry, and Couric’s children, Ellie and Carrie.
Couric wore a beautiful ivory beaded and embroidered Chantilly lace halter gown by Carmen Marc Valvo that she chose only one week prior to the wedding. Couric had such a hard time deciding on a dress that she had to call in John to help her make the final decision.
“I hope this isn’t bad luck but I actually tried it on for him,” she admitted. “I tried on a number of dresses and I was so busy, I had a crazy spring.” Crazy may be an understatement. Not only did Couric embark on her new job as a Yahoo! News Global Anchor, she released a new documentary titled Fed Up and celebrated her daughter Carrie’s graduation.
