Kate Winslet, who is gearing up for a “labor day” of her own soon, stars in Jason Reitman’s new film of the same name, which is getting mixed reviews at the Telluride Film Festival.

The film also stars Josh Brolin and sees Winslet as a newly-divorced woman who is forced to host an escaped convict in her home; the romantic drama is something of a departure for Reitman, who is known for his quirky sense of comedy and has a good grasp on his characters’ minds. “Labor Day” only has a few funny moments, however, and is getting reviews from all over the spectrum. It has been called both “sweet and sad” and a “misfire” by critics.

“It’s not a catastrophe but it felt to me like a sensitive humanist misfire,” said Hollywood Elsewhere’s Jeffrey Wells.

Reitman’s last film, “Young Adult”, didn’t do so well commercially but became a fan favorite for Charlize Theron’s performance as an emotionally stunted woman looking for anyone who will have her. “Labor Day” may well see a similar reaction from both fans and critics.

Winslet is expecting her third child soon; it is her first with new husband Ned Rocknroll, however, and the couple are anxiously awaiting the baby’s arrival. The actress says she’s not averse to working while pregnant, but has learned some tricks to stay comfortable, such as soaking her feet in an ice bath.

“I’m holding up fine. I’m pregnant, but it’s not at the point where it becomes impossible,” Winslet said. “Sometimes you just have to roll with it.”
