  • The 21-year-old American super model, Kate Upton, has won the 2013 Model of the Year award.

Upton will accept her award on September 4 at the 10th annual Style Awards. The awards will be hosted by Nicole Richie and will be held at the Lincoln Center in New York City. The Style Awards will be the start to the annual Fashion Week.

Upton made her first Sports Illustrated swimsuit appearance in 2011. After this appearance, she was named the Sports Illustrated Rookie of the Year. Then in 2012, she appeared on the cover issue of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition, making her the first model to have back-to-back Sports Illustrated Swimsuit covers since Tyra Banks. Banks landed back-to-back issues in 1996 and 1997. When Upton found out that she was going to be on the cover of the 2012 issue, she said: “I have had a great year. For me, this is groundbreaking,”

Upton has made it clear that just because she is a blonde bombshell, does not mean that she is a dumb blonde. There is more to her than what meets the eye. “People deal with models like they are children,” Upton told Elle, “They think they can pull one over on you. It’s actually funny. I’m always like, I’m about to pull something on you, and you’re so focused on thinking I’m dumb you’re not even going to know.”

Aside from Upton, ten others will receive awards for their contributions to fashion as well. The other recipients are: Zac Posen, Kate Upton, Victor Cruz, Frederic Fekkai, Patrick DeMarchelier, Rachel Zoe, John Varvatos, Trish Summerville, Janie Bryant and Victoria’s Secret. They will each receive a Tiffany & Co. designed award.

“We are extremely excited to honor and celebrate the incredible talent at this year’s show. We have truly merged the worlds of fashion and entertainment,” said Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, the President and Executive Producer of the Style Awards.
