Julianne Hough is starring in the upcoming TV special Grease: Live on Fox in January. She is playing the role of Sandra Dee, made famous in the film Grease by Olivia Newton-John.
This week the first official photos from the special were released, and Julianne Hough shared one of her, along with cast mates Vanessa Hudgens and Aaron Tveit, on her Instagram account.
“Here’s a first look at @aarontveit @vanessahudgens and I for #GreaseLive I can’t wait to play the role of Sandy, and be with this incredible cast! Don’t miss it: Sunday, January 31st on @FOXTV ! #youbettershapeup,” she captioned the photo.
Aaron Tveit is a Broadway actor whose Danny Zuko is perfect opposite Julianne Hough’s Sandy. Vanessa Hudgens plays Rizzo. One of Julianne Hough’s Dancing With the Stars friends is in Grease: Live, too. Carlos PenaVega, who was eliminated from the DWTS competition just ahead of the finals on Monday, will play the role of Kenickie.
Julianne Hough and Aaron Tveit will no doubt become the Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta of this generation with their roles in Grease: Live. It will be fun to see if the TV version creates a fraction of the hype that the film did back in 1978.
