Red Sox legend Jonny Pesky has passed away, at the age of 92, and Twitter users are paying their respects with seemingly nothing but nice things to say about the man.
Pesky, known as Mr. Red Sox, and “The Needle,” played shortstop and third base in the Majors through the 40s and early 50s, though he took a “break” from 1943-1945 to serve in World War II.
Pesky, born John Michael Paveskovich, went on to become a manager and coach for the Red Sox. He also played for the Detroit Tigers and Washington Senators late in his playing career.
He was an all star in 1946, and his Red Sox jersey, #6, went on to be retired.
