Earlier, John McAfee wrote on his blog that he was in Guatemala, and that he had made it to safety. He has now posted again, saying that he has a new lawyer.
“I have retained Telésforo Guerra, former Attorney General for the country of Guatemala, to assist in my fight against the Government of Belize,” McAfee writes. “Mr. Guerra is one of most prominent attorneys in Guatemala and, as a shared border neighbor, is well versed in the intricate system of corruption with the Belizean Government. Mr. Guerra is Samantha’s uncle.”
“I have, in the past three weeks, had no contact with the American Embassy in Belize,” he adds. “Since many employees of the Embassy are Belizean nationals, I did not feel safe in communicating with them. Now that I am in Guatemala, and in a safe harbor, I will reach out to the Embassy here.”
McAfee has been in hiding, as police in Belize have been looking to bring him in for questioning. McAfee has indicated that he believes that if detained, he would be tortured, at best.
In his latest post, McAfee notes that he has not slept in over 24 hours, and that he is in non-stop meetings and “strategizing” his next steps. He also managed to squeeze in an offer to the Prime Minister of Belize, whom he has been blogging about repeatedly. He says he will agree to meet him in a neutral country to discuss “mutual issues,” and will turn over thousands of hours of video and audio as “proof” of the “level of corruption being propagated throughout every branch” of his government.
Stay tuned.
