Joan Rivers tends to speak her mind and sometimes her words can offend people. She recently made a joke on the Today Show that may have went too far.

While talking about her new show, Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?, she complained about having to stay in her daughter’s guestroom.

“Those women in the basement in Cleveland had more space, I mean it’s just the worst,” Rivers said, to gasps of shock from The Today Show’s hosts.

She was referring to the women who had been held captive by Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro. Instead of hearing laughter from the audience, she received gasps and boos instead.

Social media didn’t take well to her joke either and Twitter was full of tweets criticizing Rivers and her cruel joke.

In spite of the harsh criticism she received for the comment, Rivers has refused to apologize for it. Attorneys who represent two victims of Ariel Castro even demanded that she apologize to their clients. Rivers still refuses to apologize and said,

“I know what those girls went through. It was a little, stupid joke. There is nothing to apologize for. I made a joke. That’s what I do. Calm down. ”

Although most people agree the joke was done in bad taste, many support Joan’s decision not to apologize and offered their support on Twitter and other social networks.

Do you think Joan Rivers should apologize for her joke or does she have the right to speak her mind?
