Jimi Hendrix has been a subject of fascination for decades since his death at the young age of 27, but we haven’t been treated to many behind-the-scenes looks at his life. It could be because his estate is loathe to give permission to use his music, but that hasn’t stopped the Andre 3000 project, “All Is By My Side”, from going on.
The film has been in the making for a good long while, and got good reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall despite the exclusion of Hendrix’s most popular songs, which the producers didn’t have permission to have. Due to rights issues, the music included in the film will be covers that Hendrix performed.
The movie focuses on the musician’s life before he gained fame and is written and directed by John Ridley. No release date has been announced.
