Jim Parsons recently took to Instagram to set the record straight about a rumor that’s been floating around the web thanks to a gossip magazine, saying they “make shit up”.

The Big Bang Theory star has been in a relationship with Todd Spiewak for more than a decade, and The National Enquirer recently announced that Parsons had proposed to his beau in fear of losing him.

“Jim has kept telling him he wanted to make sure he was settled and secure before he took on such a major change, but Todd shot back, ‘You’re going to be making more than $20 million a year now. How set do you need to be?'” a “source” said.

It’s not the first time the magazine has reported that the couple are getting married; in 2010, after Parsons won an Emmy for his work on the show, they announced that he had popped the question to Spiewak and would be tying the knot in a Christmastime trip to Massachusetts.

“After he got his award, he told Todd the only thing that would make him happier is if they got married – and Todd quickly said yes,” another source said.

Parsons posted a photo of himself with Spiewak after the story broke, saying, “Me and Todd in 2003. Still very happy today… And NOT engaged! #justFYI #NationalEnquirerMakesShitUp #duh”.

Parsons recently took the ice bucket challenge, as so many celebrities have done this month, and posted a video to Instagram calling out several friends, including co-star Mayim Bialik. The viral challenge has raised millions in an effort to spread awareness about ALS and to continue research about the debilitating disease.
