Jim Carrey is alive and well despite an internet death hoax that had him succumbing to his wounds following a snowboarding accident on Tuesday. Most media outlets originally reporting the actor’s untimely demise have since come back and retracted their previous statements, admitting they, too, were victims of the hoax.
It certainly would be interesting to learn if the Jim Carrey death hoax stemmed from a comment Shia LaBeouf made via Twitter following the Golden Globes. He called out Carrey over a dig the Dumb and Dumber actor made about him during the show. And since the comment used the phrase “you’ve killed him” with regard to Jim Carrey, as well as the phrase “Nobody knows if it’s for real or not,” it’s easy to see how the rumor might have started on its own, or simply fueled the fire for those bizarre and twisted people who think it’s okay to report that someone has died when they quite clearly haven’t.
Here’s what Shia LaBeouf tweeted following Jim Carrey’s comment at the Golden Globes on Sunday.
If you explain @JimCarrey you've killed him, Nobody knows if it's for real or not. That way he's immortal.

LaBeouf went on to insult Carrey’s parenting skills via Twitter as well, but later retracted that statement–removing it from his Twitter page.
So what kind of dig did Jim Carrey make at Shia LeBeouf at the Golden Globes that had him tweeting about it shortly thereafter? He said the following, poking fun at LaBeouf’s recent incident with plagiarism.
“Dying is easy. Comedy is hard … I believe it was Shia LaBeouf who said that,” Carrey said before handing out the award for Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical.
LaBeouf was recently called out for failing to credit Daniel Clowes for work in a short film, and accepting credit for it as his own. The former Disney actor took to Twitter then, as well, to apoligize for the “oversight.”
You don’t supposed Shia LaBeouf started that rumor about Jim Carrey, do you? Of course it will never be determined when and where the death hoax rumor about the actor came to be. The important thing is he’s alive and well and no doubt preparing to make fans laugh, even if it’s at the expense of people like Shia LaBeouf.
