  • Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh had nothing but good things to say about Jerry Rice Jr., the son of Hall of Famer Jerry Rice. However, despite being impressed by his athleticism at the team’s minicamp, Harbaugh decided not to offer him a contract.

“Yeah, I’ll tell you, Jerry Rice, Jr. has done a nice job,” Harbaugh said. “First of all, he is a really good athlete. He doesn’t have his dad’s size, but he’s sure got his athleticism. When you watch him run, he runs in a real similar way.

“And the other thing is he’s got that West Coast offense down,” he added. “He has probably had that playbook since he was in the cradle. He knows all the rules on the crossing routes and what to do, very good hands, very smooth athlete. He did a real nice job.”

Now, Rice Jr. is moving on to other potential opportunities and will be attending the San Francisco 49ers’ rookie minicamp, with Jim Harbaugh presiding, this coming weekend; the minicamp will start on Friday and will run through Sunday.

Rice Jr. announced that he would be attending the camp, via Twitter, earlier today. “Working for the next opportunity … Appreciate the Ravens for getting my feet wet. Now preparing for #49ers this weekend,” he tweeted.

Rice Jr. is the son of the legendary 49ers’ wide receiver Jerry Rice, who played at the college level for UCLA and UNLV, where he caught a combined 20 passes.
