Jennifer Garner: Affleck Could Go Into Politics

  • Jennifer Garner spoke about being the wife of a big-name actor recently, and said that as much as she loves her husband, she sometimes has to remind herself how easy it is to lose themselves to the role of wife or mom.

“He’s such a great date! But it can be too much. I think especially for women, they can really lose their identity and just become ‘wife of,’ ” she says.

That may not be a potential problem too much longer, as she also said Affleck might leave acting for politics. The 40-year old actor is the founder of the Eastern Congo Initiative, which he began in 2010 as a way to raise money and awareness about the area’s needs.

“Right now [Ben] feels like he can do more good for people politically from outside the system. Would I be surprised if one day he did go into politics? No. But not now. I’m along for the ride,” she said.

Affleck also took the Live Below The Line Challenge in April of this year, living on just $1.50 a day for a week in order to experience what it’s like to live at the extreme poverty line. Part of his goal was to raise awareness for the Global Poverty Project.

For now, though, the actor will likely stay on the acting/directing track. Affleck currently has three projects due out between now and 2015, but you won’t find Garner in any of them; she says she stays away from taking on roles alongside her husband.

“Really, you don’t want to see a couple onscreen,” she said. “People see paparazzi shots of us together all the time. There’s no mystery . . . People are sick of us.”
