The late Latin Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and actress Jenni Rivera was observed by Mexican pop singer/songwriter Gloria Trevi on the popular reality show A Toda Gloria. Rivera was a passenger on a plane that went down near Iturbide, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, in December, 2012. She was 43.

Conspiracy theories surround the passing of Rivera. During her final performance, members of the audience were allegedly heard chanting “hoy la matan,” which translates to “today, they kill her.” Some have speculated that Rivera was murdered by drug cartels.

During Trevi’s taping of A Toda Gloria for the December 7 episode, the Mexican pop diva honored her late friend from the Palace Hotel in downtown Manhattan. While donning a gilded crucifix around her neck, Trevi remarked, “We never planned for this to come out around the same time (as the anniversary of Rivera’s death), but it’s beautiful because the truth is that she’s a friend who always deserves a tribute from me. She was amazing with me – the least I can do is always be good to her.”

Here Trevi channels Medusa and Eve, at once:

During the show, Trevi speaks with Rivera’s eldest daughter, Chiquis Marin. Trevi offers Marin one of her songs, which she describes as being a “gift from heaven.”

Trevi commented, “There were so many rumors (regarding Rivera’s death), which I think are false – with respect to Chiquis. I think the problem that Chiquis had was more that she had friends or relationships that her mother didn’t want her having.

A Toda Gloria airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET.
