  • Guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. In the case of Robert Downey Jr. and his son, Indio, it’s sad to hear.

The younger Downey was arrested for possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia in West Hollywood, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said Monday.

The 20-year-old was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after police noticed narcotics activity (a.k.a. they were firing it up) in a car in which the actor’s son was a passenger off Santa Monica Boulevard, authorities said.

“He was smoking something and it wasn’t a cigarette,” a police official told ABC News.

Indio was released on $10,000 bail Sunday night around 9 p.m., authorities said.

This isn’t the first time Indio has made headlines for addiction problems. In October, Indio entered rehab for pill addiction, according to statements by his mother, actress and singer Deborah Falconer.

Downey Jr., 49, has had his own addiction problems and run-ins with the law. His troubles and multiple stints in rehab were well publicized throughout the 1980s and 90s. He finally sobered up after spending a year in the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison.

“Unfortunately there’s a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it,” Downey, Jr. told ABC News. “Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we’re all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he’s capable of being. We’re grateful to the Sheriff’s department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale.”

Hopefully, Robert Downey Jr.’s own experiences will lend some guidance to his son.
