Helen Strickland, the wife of lost hunter and country musician Craig Strickland, revealed on Monday that her husband had been found.
The cause of death, according to Helen Strickland, was hypothermia that set in after his boat capsized and he crawled to shore.
Helen Strickland wrote, “Craig was found today. We can finally rest knowing that he is at Home in Heaven with his Father. The night of the accident he had fought his way out of the water and up a hill before the stages of hypothermia set in.”
She added, “He experienced no pain in his final moments and simply felt like he was falling asleep. They found him lying in the shape of a cross looking up to his Father.”
Helen Strickland was hopeful after Craig’s hunting dog, Sam, was found. However, Craig and his hunting partner, Chase Morland, didn’t fare as well.
The two of them were risking a hunting trip on Oklahoma’s Kaw Lake during winter storm Goliath when their boat capsized. Morland was found fairly quickly, but the search for Craig went on.
Helen Strickland expressed her appreciation for search teams several times during the long days he was missing.
A bittersweet ending to a tragic tale. What do you think of Helen Strickland and the strong faith that has helped, and will continue to help, her get through this terrible loss?
