  • Harrison Ford is recovering from surgery after breaking his leg on the set of Star Wars: Episode VII.

On Thursday, a spokesperson clarified that Harrison had in fact broken his leg after original reports suggested that he had fractured his ankle.

According to British emergency services, Harrison suffered the break when a garage door fell on his leg at the Pinewood Studios just outside of London.

Ford’s spokeswoman Ina Treciokas released a statement following his successful surgery. “Harrison Ford’s left leg was broken in an accident,” Ina said in a statement. “His surgery was successful and he will begin rehab shortly. He’s doing well and looks forward to returning to work,” she added.

Filming for the newest episode in the Star Wars franchise started in May 2014, and is being directed by blockbuster filmmaker J.J. Abrams. Along with Ford, the film scheduled for release on December 18, 2015, will star original cast members Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker. Ford will reprise his role as smuggler Han Solo, Hamill will be returning for his role as Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker and Fisher will reprise her role as Princess Leia.

Other actors set to take part in the next installment include: Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac.

According to Harrison’s publicist, he will be absent from filming for at least eight weeks while he continues rehabilitation on his leg. Filming will continue in Ford’s absence.
