Rockstar Games made me feel old today by announcing that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is nearing its 10th anniversary. Widely regarded by many as the best in the series, the game took players into the neon drenched Miami of the 80s. Now it’s getting another chance at reaching an entirely new audience that prefers to play games with awkward touch controls.
Just like GTAIII before, Vice City will be coming to iOS and Android devices in the near future. Rockstar says that the game will receive a number of enhancements including high definition visuals and touch screen tailored controls. The touch controls kind of worked in GTAIII and were much better in Max Payne. Vice City will hopefully feature the best touch controls yet.
Alongside the mobile version, Rockstar will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of Vice City with promotional content. For one, the developer will release a series of commemorative assets, including “never-before-seen artwork and a brand new anniversary trailer highlighting some of the most iconic scenes and music from the game.”
Even better, the Rockstar warehouse will be host to a number of collectable promotional items that fans can purchase. The details of the items have not yet been unveiled, but Rockstar usually spares no expense for their fans. There’s bound to be some good stuff in store.
Grand Theft Auto, whether you like it or not, changed the face of gaming forever. It’s only fair that Vice City gets some love on the eve of its 10th anniversary.
