The rumors had been swirling for days, and reports of pre-orders already being spotted in stores have turned out to be true.
Today, Rockstar Games officially announced Grand Theft Auto V for a nebulous “spring 2013” release. Unfortunately for PC users, the game is, as of now, only confirmed for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.
“Grand Theft Auto V builds on everything we’ve learned about open world game design,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “We can’t wait to share it with fans.”
Grand Theft Auto V is being developed by Rockstar North. Rockstar claims that the title is the “largest and most ambitious title in the series to date.” Instead of the New York-inspired Liberty City of Grand Theft Auto IV, the new game will feature the Los Angeles-inspired Los Santos and “the surrounding area,” which will include “mountaintops” and the “depths of the ocean.”
Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto V go on sale starting November 5. In the meantime, enjoy the teaser image below that Rockstar provided along with its announcement, as well as the teaser trailer that was released almost one year ago.
