Before the hot stars arrived on Sunday evening, the red carpet outside the Golden Globe Awards was cooled down when sprinklers were accidentally set off, soaking the entrance.
“We can confirm that there was a malfunction with a sprinkler near the red carpet,” read a joint statement issued by the Beverly Hilton. “The situation was quickly resolved. Despite the incident the red carpet will open at its regularly scheduled time.”
The venue added, “As some of the biggest names in entertainment are scheduled to attend Golden Globe Awards tonight, we wanted to give the carpet one last wash before it opened.”
According to UPI, the sprinkler in the roof outside the hotel went off after a TV crew bumped it with a light fixture.
Witnesses reported smelling sewage after the incident, but staff worked to vacuum and dry the carpet before journalists took their positions and guests began to arrive.
One of the first nominees to arrive on the dry carpet was Amy Adams, wearing a red halter-style dress with a plunging neckline. Adams has been nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for American Hustle.
