  • General Hospital has long featured actor Anthony Geary in the role of Luke Spencer. Now, after nearly three decades, Geary is ready to bid Port Charles adieux. He filmed his last scene for the show last week.

Anthony Geary actually holds a long unmatched daytime television record in his role as Luke Spencer. When General Hospital aired Luke and Laura’s wedding back in 1981, it became the biggest moment in daytime television history. Might his exit from General Hospital come close to rivaling that episode?

ABC announced in May that Anthony Geary would be leaving General Hospital. They said his character will be written out of the series, but didn’t divulge the circumstances.

Genie Francis–best known for her role as Laura Spencer–hasn’t been on General Hospital since 2013. She has returned to Port Charles, however, in order to participate in the storyline bearing Luke’s exit. The two have teamed up to save their son Lucky, who is played by Jonathan Jackson. They believe Lucky has been kidnapped. Jackson actually left General Hospital back in 2011, but is returning to take part in Geary’s last days as well.

It was back in 1978 when Anthony Geary first played Luke Spencer. He thought at that time it would be a 13-week stint. With the exception of eight years in the 1980s, he has played the role ever since.

Anthony Geary has received eight Daytime Emmy Awards for his role as Luke Spencer on General Hospital.

Are you a General Hospital fan? Will you be tuning in to see Anthony Geary say goodbye next month?

Luke Spencer will say goodbye to Port Charles–and Anthony Geary to General Hospital–on July 27th.
