Garth Brooks guest starred on Ellen DeGeneres’s talk show on Friday, November 29th, and even though he was touting his new CD-DVD Boxed Set, he took plenty of time to dish about his wife, Trisha Yearwood. He shared what it was like meeting the She’s in Love With the Boy singer.
It seems the two were introduced by a fellow songwriter. Kent Blazy thought the two shared many similarities, so he set up a meeting. It wasn’t a date, however.
“When she left, he goes, ‘What did you think?’ I said, ‘Well, it’s strange, because I felt that feeling like when you just meet your wife, but I’ve been married for 13 months,'” Brooks told Ellen.
Both Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood were married to other people when they first met–Garth to his his college sweetheart, Sandi Mahl.
“Being married, it’s got to be right. This is who you went to college with, and you were married in front of God and your family and everything,” he told DeGeneres. “So you keep hacking, and you work and you work and you work. And then comes that time where you’re looking at the rest of your life going, ‘How do you want to live it?'”
In 2000–after his divorce from Mahl–he and Trisha Yearwood began dating. She was newly single as well.
“This was somebody I always enjoyed being around. And we had a lot more in common than I ever dreamed we did. And so we started seeing each other after the divorce,” he said. “We’d known each other music-wise, but we got to see each other as people. And I’ve got to tell you, if you like her and don’t know her, you’ll love her. If you love her and don’t know her, you’ll worship her. She’s the real deal.”
What an amazing thing for a husband to say about his wife–and on national TV, too. All the married women who watched Ellen’s show on Friday are now comparing their own husbands to Garth Brooks–and guys, you’re not climbing very high on the happy wife ladder! It’s hard to beat what the Friends in Low Places singer said. Twitter fans were certainly impressed.

Brooks went on, too, gushing even more over Trisha Yearwood.
“I’ve got to tell you, I never knew it could be like this,” the 51-year-old singer told Ellen about life with Trisha. “I never knew that everyday you could wake up and feel like this. And I have God and I have Ms. Yearwood to thank for this.”
He continued, describing Yearwood’s many talents around the house–her cooking and the new cookbook she wrote. But when Ellen asked him what her greatest talent is?
“Make no mistake — Ms. Yearwood was born to sing. That’s just what she does … I’ll put her in the top five female voices of all time. She’s that good,” he said.
Come on, Garth. Is singing really her greatest talent? Garth Brooks seems like an awfully happy man….
