An image has been making its way around the internet this afternoon that may or may not depict the (possibly) forthcoming Galaxy Nexus tablet from Google. The image shows what appears to be a roughly 7-inch tablet from several angles. The tablet is apparently running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and includes only Google’s own official apps.

The photo was obtained by PocketNow, who point out that it came with no context at all attached, making it more than a little suspect. Here’s the image:

Probably not the Galaxy Nexus Tablet

Pretty, right? Unfortunately, it’s probably not real. Well, that is to say, it’s probably not the Galaxy Nexus tablet. The folks at PocketNow had their suspicions, which were apparently confirmed when someone at AndroidCommunity noticed a strong resemblance between the tablet in the picture and a 7.7-inch tablet Toshiba was showing off at CES 2012.

There have been rumors that Google would produce their own self-branded Android tablet for quite some time. Last year, though, Eric Schmidt seemingly confirmed those rumors. According to Schmidt’s timeline, the tablet should be due out sometime in the first half of this year, and may well run Android 5.0 Jelly Bean instead of 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
