  • Fort Bragg Shooting: During a Thursday afternoon unit safety briefing, a soldier at Fort Bragg shoot and killed one of his fellow soldiers before turning the gun on himself, according to CNN. A third soldier was also reportedly injured in the shooting. Presently, very few details about the incident or those involved have made their way to the press.

“We don’t yet know the reasons for the shooting, but are working with the unit and the affected families to help them through this difficult period,” Fort Bragg spokesman Col. Kevin Arata stated.

The names of ranks of those involved have not been officially released. However, it has been confirmed that those involved were at part of the 525th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade. Their identities are being withheld until their respective families have been contacted, Arata added. However, NBC News, citing a source within the military, reports that that the victim was a battalion commander.

Agents from the Army Criminal Investigation Command are investigating the matter. The injured shooter, meanwhile, is currently in custody.
