Sometimes moms tend to be a little overcritical–especially of each other. Whether it’s vaccinating, breastfeeding or screen time, some moms feel the need to be very vocal about whatever it is another mom is doing that they think is incorrect. One mom found herself at the center of backlash over a picture she posted on Facebook promoting fitness.

Meet Maria Kang, a California woman dubbed as “Fit Mom,” who is catching a lot of flack over the following picture she posted on her Facebook page:

Do you see anything wrong with the Fit Mom picture? Respond below.

Kang is into health and physical fitness, and she wanted to use her body to show that being a mom isn’t an excuse for being unhealthy. To do this she posted the above picture of herself, her six pack and her three young children with the caption, “What’s your excuse?”

While such a photo might make some moms think twice about that extra dessert, a bunch of moms decided that attacking Kang online was the appropriate reaction.

Fit Mom received more than 16,000 comments on Facebook, many of which criticized her choice to post the photo. On Facebook user said, “What a joke this image is! ‘what’s your excuse’ really? I suppose you convinced yourself that this is meant to inspire other people. When really, it’s all about your appearance. If you think posing like this with your sons is setting them a good example of a women’s worth as a mum and a human-being you are deluded.”

Kang has also been accused of “fat shaming,” being a “bully” and “whoring yourself and your kids out for your 15 minutes of fame.” The mom received so many complaints that she posted an apology to her Facebook account.

“I’m sorry you took an image and resonated with it in such a negative way. I won’t go into details that I struggled with my genetics, had an eating disorder, work full time owning two business’, have no nanny, am not naturally skinny and do not work as a personal trainer. I won’t even mention how I didn’t give into cravings for ice cream, french fries or chocolate while pregnant or use my growing belly as an excuse to be inactive.

What I WILL say is this. What you interpret is not MY fault. It’s Yours.”

“No matter how many children you have, especially when you’re working and trying to maintain your shape, you don’t have to lose yourself in becoming a mother,” Kang told Good Morning America. “You can still maintain a sense of self physically and professionally. If I can do it, you can do it.”

For all of the attacks Fit Mom has received on Facebook, it looks like she is receiving just as much praise on Twitter.
