Final Fantasy XIV may be one of the greatest comeback stories in gaming. The game launched almost three years ago to poor reviews and even worse reception from gamers. Square Enix then fired the development team and got a new team to rebuild the game from scratch. Now the rebuilt Final Fantasy XIV is ready for primetime.
Square Enix announced today that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is now available for all those looking to scratch that Japanese MMO itch. It’s an entirely new game so those who were burned by the original Final Fantasy XIV may want to give this one a try. I certainly want to after watching its excellent launch trailer that looks more like Final Fantasy than any of the Final Fantasy XIII games ever did:
That was fantastic, right? It’s like Square Enix went back to its roots when Final Fantasy was all about the conflict of magic and technology in a highly stylized world full of interesting races. Final Fantasy XV certainly looks good, but I yearn for the day that Square Enix makes another single-player Final Fantasy title that looks as good as Final Fantasy XIV does.
In other news, here’s the silly live action ad that Square Enix will be using to advertise Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on television:
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is available today on the PC and PlayStation 3. It will be also be coming to the PlayStation 4 next year.
